About Fancy Marie
Born and raised in humble beginnings in the summer of 1985 in Raleigh/Durham, NC, Fancy's earliest love for the performing arts was cultivated by listening to classic country artists like Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, and Hank Williams to name a few. Between the sounds of these pioneers ringing from her grandparents' old radio and her family and teachers' persistent encouragement, Fancy knew from a very young age that it was a stage life for which she was bound. This keen knowing propelled her to obtain a degree in Dance Performance/Choreography and Musical Theatre from Elon University. Fancy has performed with regional dance, theatre, and industrial companies, cruise lines and theme parks, country, blues, funk, jazz, and folk bands, and has had the pleasure of posing as a dance, movement, fashion, and editorial model. For over a decade, she enjoyed the life of a traveling vagabond, touring both nationally and internationally for diverse audiences and venues. Finally in 2012, Rebecca sought out a community for which she could cultivate longevity within an artistic community. She then returned to her southern roots in the lively avant-garde mountain town of Asheville, NC and has cherished calling it home ever since. Currently, she a full time singer and songwriter in Western North Carolina. She is the lead singer and songwriter of the band, Fancy and the Gentlemen, and also sings with Asheville based projects like Dirty Logic and the Floyd Philharmonic. She dances, choreographs and teaches with The Asheville Ballet, Warren Wilson College, and other theatres like Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre.
